What did Mick Jagger know?
We went into lockdown in Los Angeles at the end of March as I recall. That would mean we’re just about 4 months in to this new modality. Obviously nobody knows for sure how long this will last. For many people including myself the hardest part of this has been the isolation from friends and family. Having said that, there is a positive side which is it gives you all sorts of time to build your music career and skills.
I read a while back that if you don’t come out of this pandemic having become a master at something you’re not taking advantage of the gift of time you’ve been given. I would agree. This is a great opportunity to sharpen your recording skills, playing, and songwriting. Thankfully, for lots of us the technology is there to make records at home.
At the beginning of the year I started putting together a recording course that I had been wanting to do for a long time. The quarantine gave me a chance to devote a lot of time to it and make it something really special. It’s called The Sound Visualization Method and I will offering it for purchase starting next week. I decided to pull back the curtain and show the techniques that transformed my career. I’m super excited for my fellow musicians and engineers to get their hands on this game changer.
I think it’s a good time to be reminded that chipping away at a project will get it done. Trying to do or learn everything at once is usually frustrating and counter-productive. I think there is much more power in getting in the habit of working on your goal every single day. Before long it’s done and you’re ready to move on to the next mountain.
For most of us, this time can be a valuable gift so make sure you don’t waste it.
