80/20 Your Recording and Mixing Skills

When you are trying to learn how to record and mix there is a heavy emphasis on learning the technical side of things. There are a lot of little things to learn about frequencies, gain staging, compression, eq, effect plug-ins, etc. It can be pretty overwhelming. You will have to spend some serious time learning these skills if you want your mixes to sound pro.

To make things move along faster I would suggest you apply the 80/20 rule. If you don’t know what that is Google is your friend. You want to be spending the most time on the skills that move the needle the most in your mixes or recordings.

In other words getting your song in the ballpark of sounding good is more important at this point than knowing every little tip and trick. Once you can do that then it’s time to start refining your skills.

The best way I know to do this is learning from those that have already walked this road. My Sound Visualization Method is an easy to digest course that will help you get results faster than you would probably imagine. This is because I concentrate on the “big gains.”  These are the techniques that will get you most of the way there.

This is literally a roadmap I’ve created to get you over the exact same hurdles that plagued me for years. When I put this course together my mantra was “all killer, no filler.”

Will it do everything for you? No! You still have to put in some work and wrap your head around some concepts. Having said that I made it as user friendly as I possibly could. If you go through the course completely I’m sure you will shave months and possibly years off your learning journey.

It is also a reference you can return to again and again over time so it has serious long term value. And there are some great hidden benefits you may not have realized including bringing songs to life faster, focussing more on creativity, not depending on outside studios, recording other bands, producing music for tv and film and much, much more.

Until next time…
